OCHO RIOS, St Ann:
JAMAICANS NOW have access to online shopping locally, with the advent of Clickmarket, the island’s first locally owned and operated online marketplace.
Clickmarket offers buyers the convenience of shopping online with or without a credit card and having the goods delivered to their door within two days.
“What I normally say to get people to understand the Clickmarket model quickly is, “We’re just like Amazon”. When I say that, they get it right away,” explained Managing Director Vivienne Reynolds in an interview with The Gleaner at her Ocho Rios office.
Clickmarket, which began operations in Kingston in December, brings buyers and sellers together and makes it easy for the two groups to do business, Reynolds explained.
“In addition to helping sellers put their products on our site, we show them how to manage their inventory from their own Clickmarket online portal, and we make it easier for the buyers to find those products on our site so they can shop. We do not discriminate against any seller. As long as their business is legit, they can list their products on Clickmarket, that’s the reason we’re here.”
Meanwhile, chief operating officer, Michael Claire, is extolling the advantages of Clickmarket to both buyers and sellers. According to him, in the situation that currently exists, walk-in customers in any given town are faced with limited choices and high prices.
COMPETITIVE PRICES
“On Clickmarket, you will find goods from all over Jamaica at more competitive prices. Clickmarket provides more choices and competition, and as the market grows, the choices increase.”
“It’s not easy to shop in Jamaica as some business places don’t accept credit cards. Clickmarket accepts all major credit cards, and if you don’t have a credit card, you just register on our site for CPay then add funds to your account at Paymaster, NCB or Scotiabank, and you will be able to use our CPay payment gateway.”
The advantage to sellers is that businesses, especially small businesses, will increase their customer base exponentially and not be limited by geographical location.
Claire expects that with Clickmarket, small businesses will be able to move their inventory at a greater pace.
“Let’s work to support local business people so businesses can grow and hire more people and help the economy,” Claire urged.
